SYIL is one of the world's leading CNC machine manufacturers. When you're looking for a higher-performing small CNC machine, the SYIL X7 has what you need. Chris Will, an engineer and designer, discovered just that about the X7.
Learn more about the benefits of CNC machining with the X7 and what it could do for your manufacturing operations.
Meet Engineer Chris Will
Chris is a mechanical engineer and product designer. He left his day job in 2016 and founded Idea to Proto, a design and engineering firm. He also started offering prototype manufacturing services.
After a few years, he went back to the office in a director role. He still managed Idea to Proto, and he started his own brand of products sold under his own brand name, Midnight Manufacturing.
Why Choose a SYIL CNC Machine?
Chris started Idea to Proto with a Stratasys uPrint 3D printer. His prototype manufacturing led to his first CNC mill, which was a Tormach 770.
He first discovered SYIL on YouTube when he started researching a new, more capable CNC machine. Chris said, "At the time I had never heard of them. It wasn't until a year or so later that I gave them more consideration once the X7-20 was released."
Several factors went into choosing a SYIL CNC machine. "Being a home business, best value for the money is paramount. I spent months researching various machines that I felt would be within my budget and meet my requirements for machine size and features," Chris explained.
He thought he was limited to a used machine. However, he realized that a new SYIL X7-20 would be within his budget. He said, "After making a comparison of all my machine considerations and included features and specs, a new SYIL kept moving towards the top of the list.
"After speaking with a fellow SYIL X7-20 owner who had also owned another machine I was considering, and seeing a physical machine in person, it made the decision much easier."
Features of the X7-20
The SYIL X7 is a small but powerful CNC mill. As Chris discovered, it offers both quality performance and cost efficiency. The X7 comes with the CNC machining features a professional needs.
Chris explained, "Being the single most expensive piece of equipment that I have purchased by far, the fact that it showed up in one piece eased a lot of stress. I was very impressed by the hardware used in the machine (linear rails, motors, etc.), the epoxy granite casting, and most importantly that 'bang for your buck.'
There are areas that could use some improvement, mainly in the sheet metal, but it's amazing what you get for the price point."
Epoxy Granite Frame
The X7-20 was the first X7 model with an epoxy granite frame. Mineral casting has better vibration damping than cast iron. It has dimensional stability over a wide temperature range and resists corrosion.
SYIL partners with Schneeberger for the X7 epoxy granite frame. Schneeberger is a world leader in linear motion technology. The company is known for exceptional mineral casting manufacturing.
The X7-20 has the option of upgrading to 4 or 5 axes. It makes 5-axis machining methods accessible to smaller manufacturers.
Chris chose the Syntec 22ma controller. Other options include the LNC 6800 or Siemens 828D. Spindle options include speeds up to 30,000 rpm.
Benefits of a CNC Machine for Prototype and Short-Run Production
Chris noticed the benefits of working with the SYIL X7 right away. He primarily uses the machine for prototype and short-run production. He also manufactures products under his own brand, Midnight Manufacturing.
Higher Efficiency and Productivity
Numerically controlled machines like the X7 improve efficiency and productivity. They offer the ability to automate manufacturing even for small production runs.
Chris said, "Since all of my machine work is currently done in the evening and weekends, the productivity gains over my old machine cannot be undersold. Not only from physical speed productivity but also setup time with the absolute encoders." He can now resume a job on startup without needing to re-indicate it.
He added, "Having a tool changer, which my previous machine didn't, means I can let the machine run while I work on other tasks."
CNC machining produces high-quality parts. The parts are highly accurate. A CNC machine can meet tight tolerance requirements more easily.
Chris knows he can meet his customers' needs.
Safety is especially important for single operators and small shops where an injury could close the entire operation. CNC machines need less operator intervention. This limits the possibilities for accidents.
Customer Relationships with SYIL
SYIL offers superior customer service before, during, and after the purchase of your CNC machine. Chris remarked, "Prior to placing the order I had a few questions on the machine, so I messaged Xu Shuo on Facebook. Not expecting a reply for at least a few days, if at all, I was surprised to see that he called me to answer my questions directly an hour later."
The SYIL X7 has a one-year warranty. Within the warranty period, any damaged parts will be replaced free of charge. Chris said, "The coolant pump connector was broken and a USB cover was damaged during shipping. SYIL promptly sent a replacement."
The SYIL service team is available by chat, phone, or Skype to all their clients worldwide.
